The second annual spring event started with nearly 250 girls participating in a clinic at 4:00pm, and a game at 6:00pm. The collaboration of FGCU and Miami players created an exciting learning environment.
“We appreciate Miami coming down and being involved with this great opportunity to reach out to our community and promote women’s soccer,” said FGCU head coach Jim Blankenship. “They added a great deal to the experience for each young player in attendance. I’m very proud of our kids for taking the time to reach out in the community with nightly clinics for the past two weeks; they are great role models for women’s soccer and our FGCU program." more

Lions Announce New Signings for 2010

SAINT LEO, Fla. - Saint Leo University head women’s soccer coach Ged O’Connor has announced the addition of five new players for the 2010 season as they submitted National Letters of Intent committing to attend SLU during the last signing period. One tranfer and four incoming freshmen, the additions include one goalkeeper, two forwards, one midfielder, and one defender who will add to an already deep, talented and experienced squad.
Despite a 2009 season full of challenges, O’Connor guided the Lions to a 9-6 season and another finish in the top-half of the Sunshine State Conference. A program beginning to be recognized in Division II as one of success despite a rocky start over 10 years ago, the Lions earned their fourth consecutive berth in the NCAA Division II Tournament last fall. During the 2009 campaign Saint Leo also advanced to the SSC Tournament Semifinal. more

Barron Collier junior draws interest of Olympic Development Program

NAPLES — After Barron Collier junior Jen Martin helped lead the Cougars to a home regional semifinal win against Fort Myers in January, BC coach Ray Morgan huddled the team together. (March 23, 2010) – After leading Rollins women’s soccer to national prominence, Tars head coach Tony Amato has resigned to take over the women’s soccer program at Stephen F. Austin University, it was announced on Tuesday.
“We cannot thank Tony enough for his love and service to Rollins and building the women’s soccer program to where it is today,” said Director of Athletics Pennie Parker. “As a student-athlete, graduate and coach at Rollins, Tony exemplified all of the values, commitment and dedication that we expect from our students and staff. He will be missed, but we wish him nothing but success at SFA and throughout his career.”

Assistant coach Alicia Milyak will lead the team through its spring season while a national search is conducted for the next head coach.
“It was a very tough decision to leave Rollins because of the love I have for the institution, the program, and the girls,” said Amato. “I am extremely proud of what we were able to accomplish the past seven seasons, and am excited to see the team go even further next year.” more

Boca Raton, Fl, Brittany D'Addio, Girls Varsity Soccer Senior co-captain at Pope John Paul II High School became the only player in Pope John Paul II History to score both 100 career goals and assists when she scored her 100th assist last Friday vs S. Fl. Heat. Earlier in the season D'Addio hit the century mark for career goals with her 100th vs Summit Christian. D'Addio ended the regular season on Friday with 118 goals and 102 assists, with post season District and Regional playoffs still ahead. D'Addio is the only player in Pope John Paul II History to reach the coveted century mark for both Goals and Assists and holds the all time scoring record at Pope. "It's certainly been another nice season for Brittany, capping off a great High School career" said Scott Baker, PJP II Athletic Director and also Brittany's coach for her Team Boca club team. "We've had a long history of very talented players here at Pope, but none have reached the 100/100 mark so that speaks a lot about Brittany's ability" said Baker. more

Blue Devils Dominate Lake Gibson

photos from the game

After two quick scores by the Blue Devil's Haley Carifi and Brittany Lajoie it looked as if the rout was on. All the teams played at one location, the fields were in good shape, the rest room facilities were more than adequate, plenty of parking, scores were posted in a central location, and the refs were good and on time. I also believe that FYSA had a rep at every field with a walkie talkie so that they could communicate with each other. It just seemed like a very organized event and FYSA should be congratulated.

With that being said, I believe that FYSA needs to establish a better seeding system for State Cup. There were some blowouts this weekend that should not happen in a final four. Maybe they could use a combination of things. They could use some of the ranking sites like usarank.com and a coaches poll of each age group's coaches. Don't get me wrong, there were some great games this weekend. I would just like to see the top four teams have a chance to make it to the Final our instead of the top four teams being stuck in the same elimination bracket in the Sweet 16.<div
