Week #1 August 30, 2009

Kelsey Mitchell, Virginia Tech, Freshman

Kelsey is from Longwood, FL where she graduated from Lake Brantley High School in 2009. Kelsey started the first game of the season for VA Tech and assisted on the first goal in a 2-0 win over High Point.

Kayla Grimsley, South Carolina, Sophomore

Kayla is from Lakeland, FL where she graduated from George Jenkins High School in 2008. Kayla was named preseason all SEC at the beginning of the year and scored a goal in each of the last two games against Western Carolina and College of Charleston.

Emily Dowd, Tennessee, Sophomore

Emily is from Gainesville, FL and graduated from Gainesville High School in 2008. Emily was named to the First Tennessee Lady Vol Classic All-Tournament Team after her performance in this past weekend’s tournament. Emily scored a goal against Arizona State on Friday.

Heather Havron, Auburn, Sophomore

Heather is from Winter Park, Fl where she graduated from Winter Park High School in 2007. Heather assisted on a goal in a 3 to 0 victory of South Alabama.

Megan Zusi, Furman, Junior

Megan is from Longwood, FL where she graduated from Lake Brantley High School in 2007. Megan Scored the final goal in 3 to 0 victory over USC Upstate on 8/24/09.

Mariel Mena Lenoir-Rhyne, Sophomore

Mariel is from Gainesville, FL and graduated from P.K. Yonge High School in 2008. Mariel had 8 shots with 4 of those on goal and assisted on a goal in a 5 to 0 victory over Barton on 8/28/09.

Kelly Nimmo Columbus State, Senior

Kelly is from Safety Harbor, FL where she graduated from Countryside High School in 2006. Kelly made 1 save in a scoreless tie vs Grand Valley State on 8/28/09.

Tabitha Padgett, UNC Greensboro, Freshman

Tabitha is from Orange park, FL where she graduated from Orange Park High school in 2009. Tabitha has stated all 3 games this season scoring a goal in 1 to 0 win over Duke on 8/28/09.

Jessica Olin, Robert Morris, Freshman

Jessica is from New Port Richey, FL where she graduated from River Ridge High School in 2009. Jessica has started and completed both games as goal keeper so far this season making11 saves.

Caitlin Farrell, Wake Forest, Senior

Caitlin is from Fort Myers, FL where she graduated from Cypress Lake High School in 2006. Caitlin assisted on a goal in a 5 to 0 victory over UNC-Wilmington on 8/26/09.

Arielle Cohen, OleMiss, Freshman

Arielle is from Wellington, FL where she graduated from Palm Beach Central high school in 2009. Arielle has started all 3 games so far this season and was named to the 2009 Ole Miss Nike Invitational all tournament team for her performance in this past weekend tournament. Arielle scored her first collage goal in a 3 to 0 victory over Moore Head State on 8/28/09. She also had 2 goals and an assists in a 6 to 0 win over Jackson State on 8/30/09.

Emily Longden, Lipscomb, Freshman

Emily is from Jacksonville, FL where she graduated from Providence High School in 2009. Emily was named A-Sun Player of the week for her performance in a 1 to 0 victory against Austin Pea y where she scored the lone goal.

Jill Pinder, Troy, Junior

Jill is from Pensacola, Fl where she graduated from B.T. Washington High School in 2007. Jill scored a game tying goal with six minutes left to force overtime. Troy beat Nicholls State 3-2 in double overtime.

Florida State Soccer To Host Coaches Clinic


Tony DiCicco headlines the Inaugural Coaches Clinic hosted by Florida State.

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Would you like to learn from some of the nation's elite soccer coaches from the professional, college and high school levels? Then join the Florida State Soccer Staff for the Inaugural Coaches Clinic hosted by Florida State University on October 17, 2009.

Featured presenters at the clinic include Tony DiCicco, current head coach of the Boston Breakers of the Women’s Professional Soccer League, Florida State head coach Mark Krikorian and Trevor Moawad, Director of the IMG Performance Institute.

“We are thrilled to be hosting an event of this caliber,” added Krikorian. “For coaches to have the chance to learn the intricacies of the game from the likes of Tony DiCicco, Trevor Moawad, and the rest of the staff we have assembled, is a great opportunity for everyone involved. We hope everyone finds the clinic informative and engaging.” more

Lakeland Native Named Preseason All SEC

Kayla Grimsley from Lakeland who is entering her Sophomore season for the South Carolina Gamecocks was one of only 3 non-Senior players to be selected to the 2009 All-SEC Preseason Team.

Grimsley earns her first preseason honor after a strong freshman campaign that culminated in her earning second team All-SEC honors, SEC All-Freshman team honors and Soccer Buzz All-Southeast Region honors. She led the team in her rookie season with eight goals and six assists for 22 points, making her only the second freshman and seventh player overall to score 20 points in a season at South Carolina. She tied the program record with a six-match scoring streak that began with the start of conference play, and she became the only freshman in Gamecock history to score a goal in four consecutive matches. She twice earned SEC weekly honors and brought home four national team of the week honors last season.

Prior to South Carolina Grimsley played high school soccer for Jenkins High School winning a 5A state championship her senior year and Florida Dairy Farmers Player of the year. Kayla also won 4 club soccer state championships playing for Countryside, HCU and IMG Soccer Clubs. more
